Family and Home - A Visit in Several Parts

Real-Life Situations - Installation - Theater - Performance
by Angie Hiesl and Roland Kaiser
Family and Home - these two terms have a variety of meanings and associations for people, and are linked to different experiences. Home conjures up a sense of security and is an intimate space. Family stands for a protective community. Increasingly, however, the traditional form of the family - an institution that is safeguarded by the state - is being questioned. Now, the "traditional family" co-exists with numerous other ways of living together.

In this piece, Angie Hiesl and Roland Kaiser sound out the various layers of family life. In different performance-installations, they cast a glance behind the scenes and transport domestic and "intimate" situations into public places. The protagonists in the work are traditional families, singles, same-sex couples, and other people who share life in some way.
The performances blend in with everyday urban life-passers-by and street traffic become a part of them. In the meeting of interior and exterior worlds, absurd, surreal and critical images emerge.

World premiere 2003 - Cologne, different locations in the "Severinsviertel"

"Hiesl has once again achieved what conventional theater normally fails to do: she blurs the lines between public and private life, between art and life."
Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger, Oliver Cech, July 1, 2003
